What is Embryo Freezing?

Embryo freezing, also known as embryo cryopreservation, is a process in which fertilized eggs (embryos) are preserved for future use. This technique allows individuals and couples to store embryos at a very low temperature (-196°C) using advanced vitrification technology, ensuring they remain viable for future implantation.

Embryo Freezing Treatments

Embryo freezing is a suitable option for:

  • Couples undergoing IVF treatments who wish to store extra embryos for future attempts.
  • Women planning to delay pregnancy due to career, medical reasons, or personal choices.
  • Individuals facing medical treatments like chemotherapy or radiation that may impact fertility.
  • Couples considering preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) to screen for genetic conditions before implantation.

  • Ovarian Stimulation & Egg Retrieval – The female partner undergoes hormonal stimulation to produce multiple eggs, which are then retrieved.
  • Fertilization – The retrieved eggs are fertilized with sperm in the lab through IVF or ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).
  • Embryo Development – The fertilized eggs develop into embryos over a few days (usually up to day 5 or 6, known as the blastocyst stage).
  • Vitrification (Rapid Freezing) – The best-quality embryos are frozen using vitrification, a technique that prevents ice crystal formation, ensuring high survival rates.
  • Storage in Liquid Nitrogen – The embryos are stored in specialized cryo-tanks at -196°C until they are needed.

  • Higher Success Rates – Frozen embryo transfer (FET) has been shown to improve implantation rates and pregnancy success.
  • Reduces IVF Costs & Efforts – If an IVF cycle doesn’t result in pregnancy, frozen embryos eliminate the need for ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval again.
  • Preserves Fertility for the Future – Couples can plan their pregnancies at a later stage without concerns about declining egg quality.
  • Safe & Effective – Advanced vitrification techniques ensure that embryos maintain their viability and quality after thawing.

  • Embryos can be stored for several years without any decline in quality. At Jananam Fertility Centre, we follow international safety standards for cryostorage, ensuring that embryos remain safe and well-preserved.
