If you are considering donating your sperm to help an individual or a couple to conceive, either as a known or anonymous recipient, here is how you can begin the process;
- Ensure that you are emotionally ready for the process, and if you insist on being a known recipient, you should be prepared to go through legal procedures
- Please consult with a fertility doctor to find out the criteria for becoming a recipient in their sperm bank
- Once you’re eligible, you will be asked to sign a consent form that states whether you are genetically healthy and free from sexually transmitted infections (STI)
- You will be asked to refrain from ejaculating either through masturbation or sex, 2 to 5 days before the donation
A beautiful quote by Ronald Reagan goes by, “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.” And as much as it sounds like a taboo subject, sperm donation is becoming a more common and convenient mode of conception for couples with fertility issues in India.
