SECOND OPINION

Bring your whole file. We'll tell you what it shows.

Everyone talks to couples who are starting out. Almost nobody talks to the woman after her third failed transfer. This page is for her, and for him.

A second opinion looks at what happened, not just what's next. We read your whole file before you arrive. Then we tell you plainly what it shows. Sometimes the honest answer is a different plan. Sometimes it is to stay where you are, or to stop.

Who a second opinion is for.

If any of these is you, your file is worth a fresh read.

Advice that conflicts

One doctor says IVF, another says wait. One says donor eggs, another says try again.

What to bring: the whole file.

The more of the file we see, the more useful the review. If something is missing, ask your clinic for a copy. It is a normal request.

Every stimulation cycle

The drug chart: which medicines, what doses, how many days, and the trigger.

Scan and hormone records during each cycle

Follicle sizes and estradiol or progesterone levels, by date.

Egg collection reports

How many eggs were collected and how many were mature.

Embryology reports

How many fertilised, IVF or ICSI, how the embryos developed day by day, their grades, and which were frozen.

Transfer notes

Fresh or frozen, which day, how many embryos, the lining thickness, and the medicines used to prepare it.

Test results for both of you

AMH, hormones, thyroid, semen analyses, tube checks, hysteroscopy or laparoscopy reports, and any genetic or PGT reports.

Pregnancy tests and losses

Beta hCG results, early scan reports, and any miscarriage or pregnancy tissue reports.

What the review covers.

A second opinion is a read of your file, not a sales visit. This is what we look at, in order.

01

We read the file before you arrive

The doctor goes through every cycle first, so the time together is spent on answers.

02

How your ovaries responded

The protocol, the doses, how many eggs, how many were mature, and whether a different approach, such as collecting eggs over more than one stimulation, might suit you better.

03

What happened in the lab

Fertilisation, how the embryos grew, and where they stopped. This is often where the real answer sits.

04

The transfer and the womb

Fresh or frozen, the lining, and whether the womb itself was checked when it should have been.

05

What was never tested

A semen analysis that is years old, a tube check that was skipped, a thyroid result nobody acted on. Gaps matter as much as results.

06

What the file shows, in plain words

We tell you what we can see, what we can't, and what we would do next in your place, with a written summary to take home.

What we will say about your previous clinic.

Only what the file shows. We were not in the room, and we never pretend we were.

The name of your clinic, or any clinic.

We never name, rank or compare another clinic. Not on this page, not in the room.

They got it wrong.

We say what the file shows, and what we would do differently now. Hindsight is easy; we don't sell it.

Start everything again with us.

Recent, reliable tests are reused. We repeat a test only if it is out of date or unclear.

You must move to Jananam.

Sometimes the right plan is to stay with your doctor, with one change. We will tell you when it is.

Doctors who refer a couple to us: we review the file and, with the couple's consent, write back to you with what we found.

THE HONEST ANSWER

Sometimes the answer is stay where you are.

If your plan was sound and your clinic knows your history, moving can cost you time you don't have. When that is what the file shows, we will say so, and tell you what to ask your own doctor next. A second opinion is worth having even when it confirms the first.

Where Dr Vani stands on failed cycles.

Two of her stated positions, in her own words.

What is the most common mistake after a failed cycle elsewhere?

Couples wait too long to resume treatment after a failed cycle.

Dr Vani Sundarapandian, Founder and Medical Director

Disappointment makes a gap feel safe. But time is part of the prognosis, so the review should come soon, while there is still a next step to plan.

IVF failed: what next

When is further treatment unlikely to help?

Extremely low reserve over 40, repeatedly poor eggs, failed fertilisation, consistently poor embryos, repeated embryo arrest, no viable sperm. We also do not proceed where pregnancy poses a serious risk to the woman's life or where ART law does not permit it.

BRING YOUR FILE

A morning set aside for second opinions.

Dr Vani’s team keeps a morning for couples who have had treatment elsewhere. Send your records ahead, and the review is done before you sit down. Living abroad?

In their words, not ours.

The doctors (specially Vani mam)are highly knowledgeable, compassionate, and take the time to explain every step of the process clearly, which really helped reduce anxiety.

Every staff member — the front desk, billing team and especially the nurses, go above and beyond to make patients comfortable. The nurses provide 24/7 support, which made my experience stress-free.

After a failed cycle, asked plainly.

IVF failed. What should we do next?

After a failed IVF cycle, first find out why: have the whole cycle reviewed (the response, the eggs, the embryos and the transfer) before deciding the next step. Don't leave a long gap, because the most common mistake Dr Vani sees is couples waiting too long to resume treatment. If you have frozen embryos, they may still be transferred after the right checks.

Why did my embryo not implant?

An embryo usually fails to implant because of the embryo itself, most often a chromosome problem that becomes more common with age, and less often because of the womb. Your embryology report and transfer notes usually show which is more likely, and that is what a file review reads.

We've had 3 failed IVF cycles. Should we keep trying?

After 3 failed IVF cycles, the answer depends on what the cycles show, not on the number. If the embryos were good, the plan may need one change; if the file shows repeatedly poor eggs, failed fertilisation or repeated embryo arrest, Dr Vani will tell you plainly that more of the same is unlikely to help.

Where can I get a second opinion on IVF in Chennai?

Jananam Fertility Centre in Neelankarai, Chennai, reviews IVF and IUI files from other clinics. Send your records on WhatsApp or bring them, and the doctor reads them before you meet.

Will you tell me my clinic made a mistake?

No. We never name another clinic or say it got something wrong. We tell you what the file shows and what we would do next, which sometimes means staying with your current doctor.

Can we get a second opinion without leaving our clinic?

Yes, a second opinion is a review, not a transfer of care. Many couples take our summary back to their own doctor.

How much does a second opinion cost?

The review fee is told to you before you book, and nothing else is added unless you choose treatment. Any treatment afterwards comes with a written price before it starts.

We live abroad. Can you review our file?

Yes, send your records ahead and the review can be a video consultation. You travel to Chennai only if you decide on treatment here.
